About the AC/DN Patch by [HWK]Volt

Please Note; this patch is recommended only for Hawks, though any other players who exclusively play battlefield maps and not Deathmatch are free to load it as well. We suggest keeping the original mods02.gs1 file in a Storage folder.

When looking at the American Civil War, 5% of combat casualties were due to melee (cold steel), 5% to artillery and 90% due to small arms fire. This patch attempts to replicate this fact, and bring game play dynamics more in line with historical reality. Given that the artillery was already fairly realistic in the way it functioned, no changes were made to the cannons in terms of firepower.

Here are some of the things modified in this patch

1) The Texas nation flag is now a US flag as the Texas regulars are the closest things to American regular infantry in the game for that time period. We plan on building many Mexican-American War battles and so this substitution was acceptable whereas set-piece Texas War of Independence battles are minuscule.

2) These Texas (US) troops also have double line formation instead of the 3 line deep. The same has been done for the older era US and the British troops in the game. Mexican infantry retain the 3 deep line formations.

3) DBs (dead bodies) are added for most units, and should create a more epic look for battle field play.

4) 'Texan' cannons move more rapidly then Mexican cannons as in real life. American cannon were sometimes called the "flying artillery" due to their speed of movement.

5) 'Texan' infantry (which will be US Regulars for Mexican-American War maps) have more firepower then Mexican infantry as Mexican infantry had old guns, and poor powder.

6) Civil war infantry firepower has been increased substantially to speed up game play. Now battles don't take 3 hours. As it is no longer so hard to kill each other and DN plays faster now, battle time should be about as long as EW battles, or slightly longer.

7) Melee power has been reduced substantially across the board. Mass charges are no longer the force majeure they once were. Melee still works fine; however, it will no longer be preferred over shooting. Cold steel attacks are now best used when the opposing unit begins to route. Gabions increase melee power for units nearby, so melee in and around trenches should still be fairly powerful and bloody. Also remember that Gabions do in-fact block projectiles from hitting the troops behind them...so firing long range at entrenched units is a sure-fire way of getting your troops slaughtered with almost no gain.

The main goal of this mod was to make DN more playable for the Hawks and our historical battle map mode of play.
