The Map Rules
Ligny has several dynamic rules,
that while they add numerous realistic aspects to game play, they also demand
extra attention. Like other “Objective” maps, there are field objective flags
(circled yellow), each of them historically significant. To win, the French Army of the North (blue) must take three
of them. The moment that the French players hold three flags, they are declared
the winners and the “routed” Prussian players must surrender. In addition, the
French Guard division (boxed red) is not allowed to move until one of the
following 3 conditions is met;
1) Two
of the field objectives have been taken
2) French
population count dips below 3,300
3) They
are attacked by either infantry or cavalry. NOTE; Cannon attack does not
release them.
The Guard cannon battery may fire right away. The final important rule is that the death of either Blucher or Napoleon on the field means automatic route and defeat for the unfortunate player. This possibility is easily checked by pushing Ctrl+A to see if your VIP is still among the living. Engineers/sappers are able to build redoubts and explosive charges. If it is obvious that the French players will not be able to achieve three flags, they should surrender (withdraw) to make the game more realistic and fun.
